Lenovo Legion Y70 2026 Tipped for May 19 Launch With Snapdragon 8 Gen 5
Lenovo Legion Y70 2026 is set for China launch
Lenovo is preparing to bring back its Legion-branded smartphone line with the Legion Y70 2026 gaming phone, which is set to launch in China on May 19. The company has confirmed through a new teaser that the device will not use the top-tier chipset found in rivals such as the RedMagic 11 Pro and iQOO 15 Ultra.
The new Legion phone is the first major return for Lenovo’s gaming smartphone lineup since the 2022 Y70. Before the latest chipset teaser, Lenovo had already revealed two other key details: a large 8,000mAh battery and a 2K high-speed gaming screen.
The battery figure puts the phone ahead of competitors like the RedMagic 11 Pro and iQOO 15 Ultra on capacity, according to Lenovo’s earlier teasers. The company has also said the screen should deliver better visuals while using less power than 1.5K panels used by rival phones.
The latest update, however, confirms that the Legion Y70 2026 will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 rather than the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. Lenovo’s rivals, the RedMagic 11 Pro and iQOO 15 Ultra, are listed with the Elite version of the chip.
That leaves Lenovo’s phone short of the highest-end option in this segment. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 is described as capable of performance close to last year’s Snapdragon 8 Elite, but it is still behind the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for gaming and raw performance.
Lenovo’s choice may also affect pricing, since phones using the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 are generally less expensive than models with the Elite variant. The company has not announced pricing for the Legion Y70 2026 yet.
Lenovo has also confirmed a cooling setup for the device. The phone will pair the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 with a 5,500mm VC cooling system, a 12W liquid metal conductive element and 10W high thermal conductivity gel. Lenovo says the arrangement is meant to support sustained performance under heavy load.
More official details are expected before the May 19 launch in China, where Lenovo will try again to establish its Legion gaming phone brand in the Android gaming smartphone market.
