Pixel Call Recording Expands Across Europe Ahead of Global Rollout
Google is expanding Call Recording in the Pixel Phone app to more countries, extending beyond the United States. The feature, which first returned to select markets last year, is now appearing in additional regions in Europe. Recent reports indicate users in several European countries have the option enabled, and Google has confirmed the rollout will continue across supported markets by the end of February, subject to local regulations governing call recording and user consent.
Global rollout across Europe and other regions
Pixel Call Recording is now active in countries such as Germany, Italy, Spain, Romania, and France, among others in Europe, according to a recent report by 9to5Google. Google stated that the wider rollout should reach all supported regions by the end of February, provided local laws permit it. The feature first returned to select markets last year, with a broader rollout starting in November. At that time, much of Europe had not yet seen the option on devices, but activity has since expanded in several countries as Google works toward comprehensive availability alongside device launches like the Pixel 10a.
Google also noted that Call Recording is part of a broader international push for Pixel communications tools. In addition to this rollout, updates to Call Screen and Scam Detection were highlighted for Australia, Canada, and Ireland. In India, Pixel 10 users will gain Manual Call Screen with support for English and Hindi, and a translation capability is described to help users when the caller’s language differs from their own.
In terms of device and software requirements, Call Recording works on Pixel 6 and newer models running Android 14 or later. The feature is described as separate from the Gemini Nano-based Call Notes feature found on some newer devices, and it does not provide transcripts or summaries of calls.
Availability varies by region due to local laws. Some jurisdictions ban call recording entirely, while others require consent from all participants. An automatic voice notification is included to help users comply with legal requirements.
Enablement, features and regional considerations
To enable Call Recording, users should open the Phone app, go to Settings, and select Call Recording under the Call Assist section to begin setup. During a call, pressing the record button starts recording, and an audio announcement informs all participants before recording begins. Users can choose automatic recording for unknown numbers and set retention options to 7, 14, or 30 days, or retain recordings permanently.
Saved recordings appear in the Phone app’s home tab with a microphone icon and built-in playback options. Availability is region-dependent due to local laws governing call recording. The app includes an automatic voice notification to aid compliance with legal requirements.
Other related features include Call Screen and Call Notes. Call Screen and Scam Detection are expanding to Australia, Canada, Great Britain, Ireland, and India, while Call Notes for Post-Call scheduling will arrive as a beta later this year in Australia, Canada, Ireland, and India. After a call ends, Call Notes can propose calendar events, tasks, and reminder suggestions, with a 3-second timer allowing per-call disablement if not needed. The rollout of Call Notes is described as a beta preview later this year in the listed regions.
Google also notes that Call Screen and Call Notes will work with the Phone app on Android Auto, helping users manage calls while driving. The integration is described as coming later in the year.
