Kirin 8030 Leak Signals Higher Clock Speeds Than 8020

Kirin 8030 Leak Signals Higher Clock Speeds Than 8020

Huawei remains secretive about its Kirin chipsets, and the latest details come from a Weibo leakster who outlined the Kirin 8030. The chip is described as mid range and could appear in future Huawei nova and Enjoy devices. The leak notes that the Kirin 8030 would clock higher than the Kirin 8020, which powered the nova 15 as well as earlier nova 14 Pro and nova 14 Ultra.

According to the leak, the Kirin 8030 is said to be built on SMICs N plus 2 node, a 7 nm FinFET process. Officials familiar with the matter said the node is older, reflecting the constraints Huawei and SMIC face in sourcing cutting edge process technology. The information is not confirmed by Huawei in an official statement.

The CPU setup described for the Kirin 8030 uses in house Taishan cores: 1x super large core at 2.8-3.0 GHz, 3x medium cores at 2.4-2.6 GHz, and 4x small cores at 1.8-2.0 GHz.

Key technical points

  • Node: SMIC N plus 2 7nm FinFET
  • CPU: Taishan in house cores as noted above
  • Target devices: mid range Huawei nova and Enjoy phones

Historically, the nova 15 is cited as using Kirin 8020, with the Kirin 8020 also appearing in the nova 14 Pro and nova 14 Ultra. The 8030 description positions the chip as a potential upgrade path in the mid-range segment, pending official confirmation.

Unconfirmed by Huawei at this time.

Observers will watch for any official confirmation or further leakage about the Kirin 8030 and its deployment in upcoming devices.
