Final beta focuses on polish

The update does not bring major feature changes. Instead, it continues the move toward a near-final build, with the latest beta placing emphasis on consistency and developer notes. Compatible devices can install it over the air at no cost, though beta software can still include bugs and app compatibility issues.

Pixel 6 series devices remain on the supported list, along with Pixel 7, Pixel 8, Pixel 9, Pixel 10, Pixel Tablet and Pixel Fold models.

Small changes and supported devices

One noticeable change in Android 17 Beta 4 is the replacement of the “No notifications” message in the notification panel with “You’re all caught up,” a wording change similar to what users have seen on the Pixel Watch. The beta also adds a new system icon and continues with stability improvements.

The supported list includes Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro and Pixel 6a; Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro and Pixel 7a; Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro and Pixel 8a; Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, Pixel 9 Pro Fold and Pixel 9a; Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL and Pixel 10 Pro Fold; as well as Pixel Tablet and Pixel Fold.

Users who want to try the build can enroll in the Android Beta Program and receive the update over the air. The release comes after Beta 2 and Beta 3, which had already improved stability, and it marks the last scheduled beta before Android 17 moves toward the stable version.

Google has not laid out every next step in the release notes here, but the timeline suggests Android 17 is nearing completion. The company’s earlier pattern also points to a stable release window in the coming months, with Android 16 having reached stable in June last year.

For developers, the final beta includes notes tied to app testing and remaining inconsistencies. For general users, the build is positioned as a near-complete preview rather than a full replacement for the finished release.
