One UI 8.5 Beta Upgrades Bixby With Real-Time Web Access
Upgraded Bixby in One UI 8.5 Beta
Samsung has released the fifth One UI 8.5 beta for the Galaxy S25 lineup in several markets, introducing an upgraded Bixby voice assistant. Samsung says the updated assistant handles more natural language interactions and reduces the need to recall exact setting names. The new update adds on-device configuration awareness so Bixby can identify current device settings and suggest relevant actions. Bixby also now includes an integrated real-time web search, which means if someone does a web search using Bixby, the results will show up inside of the Bixby assistant interface. The beta rollout suggests that a larger stable version will be released soon as well, coinciding with the Galaxy S26 launch later this year. The fifth beta includes the security patch dated February 5, 2026.
Update in brief: beta rollout continues in selected markets.
The rollout is being described as a step toward a smoother user experience by reducing navigation time and enabling faster completion of tasks within the fold of One UI 8.5. The company notes that natural language interactions can simplify operations that typically require navigating menus or recalling feature names. The on-device understanding is presented as a way to help users access features more quickly by analyzing the current configuration and proposing appropriate actions without explicit prompts.
Samsung states that the upgrade improves natural language usage and enables navigation without naming specific features. The system can interpret user requests such as keeping the screen active while viewing content and then enable the relevant setting without the user needing to name it explicitly. Through its design, this solution focuses on reducing the time spent navigating and minimizing the need to search for functions and features within a menu structure.
The incorporation of real-time web search integration provides the Bixby Assistant with live data within the Bixby Interface, thereby allowing users to receive suitable web search results using the Bixby Interface without needing to search another browser for things like "hotels." This represents an addition to the data retrieval capability of an on-device assistant that goes beyond traditional commands to include live data retrieval capabilities.
The Bixby Assistant with Integrated Real-Time Search Capability is available now in limited release and/or limited markets only (either as a result of product availability constraints due to capacity limitations) including Germany, India, Korea, Poland, the United Kingdom, and the United States of America; however, Samsung anticipates making this capability more broadly available globally in the coming months, as they finalize their feature sets, are responsive to user feedback, etc.
- On-device Bixby understands natural language and does not require exact setting names to complete tasks
- Real-time web search is integrated within the Bixby interface for live results
- Markets with the update include Germany, India, Korea, Poland, UK, US
- Fifth One UI 8.5 beta includes the February 5 2026 security patch
- Stable version is expected to release alongside the Galaxy S26 at the Galaxy Unpacked event next week
The update is arriving ahead of the planned stable deployment, with a wider rollout planned in the coming months. Samsung has positioned the fifth beta as a step toward the final version that will accompany the Galaxy S26 series at its Unpacked event next week. The beta test for Bixby is aimed at improving Bixby by implementing more natural language support, access to real-time information, and making sure that any potential issues are identified early on in the launch rather than during the later phases.
The next phase for Bixby has two main focuses, expanding into more markets and enhancing the Bixby experience through continued updates as part of One UI 8.5. Samsung has not provided a timeline for the full rollout of Bixby outside of their goal to make more available in future weeks/months.
