Samsung Plans One Million Wide Fold Units with 4 by 3 Display

Samsung has publicly announced its tri-fold Galaxy Z TriFold and has sold some units in South Korea. The company is expected to launch another foldable phone later this year, rumored to arrive alongside the Galaxy Z Fold8 and Z Flip8 this summer, according to supply chain sources.

According to supply chain sources, Samsung plans to sell at least 1 million units of the Galaxy Wide Fold, a tentative name for a phone described as having a 4 by 3 foldable display. The Wide Fold is positioned to rival the upcoming iPhone Fold, which is also rumored to have a 4 by 3 foldable panel.

Officials say the Wide Fold is not a special edition phone. People familiar with the matter said the device would become a full fledged member of Samsung's Galaxy foldable lineup. This move signals confidence in the product and its foldable strategy, especially after Samsung sold about 6 million units of the Galaxy Z Fold7 last year. A 1 million unit target in the first year is ambitious.
