Apple Plans Siri App Revamp With Gemini Access and New AI Features
Apple Plans Siri App for iPhone, iPad and Mac
Apple is reportedly preparing a broader artificial intelligence push that includes a major Siri overhaul, with a standalone app under testing for iPhone, iPad and Mac. According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, the redesigned Siri interface could replace the existing glowing edges effect and keep the same activation triggers. Apple Plans Siri App Revamp new Gemini access.
The in-development app is expected to act as a central hub for voice assistant use, with a chat-like layout, conversation history, text input and deeper system features. Apple has not confirmed the plans.
Standalone Siri app could bring chat style interface
Gurman said the app may show past conversations in a list or grid, with chat bubbles and a text entry field that resembles a thread in Apple's Messages app. The design under test reportedly places Siri at the top of the screen inside the Dynamic Island, with prompts such as Search or Ask after activation.
A glowing Siri icon and a pill-shaped Searching indicator may also appear, and users may be able to pull down the menu to continue a conversation. The design has not been finalised and could change.
New tools, systemwide toggle and delayed rollout
Apple is also testing features that could let users pin conversations, search previous chats, upload documents and photos for analysis, and switch between text and voice modes. Suggested prompts based on prior usage may be included too. Another reported feature is a systemwide Ask Siri toggle, which could send selected content, including highlighted text, into a Siri conversation for more context.
A new Write with Siri option is also in testing, with AI-powered writing tools for the keyboard. The updated Siri is said to be internally codenamed Campo and may use a more conversational, chatbot-style interaction model. It is also expected to have deeper system integration and contextual awareness, with possible access to messages, email and other personal data to carry out requests inside apps.
The Siri overhaul builds on work Apple previewed at WWDC 2024 but did not release. The feature set was first linked to iOS 26.4, then later reports pointed to a further delay into 2026. Apple has said WWDC 2026 will focus on AI advancements, but has not officially detailed these features. Citing sources familiar with the matter, Gurman said the new Siri will be unveiled on June 8 as part of iOS 27, iPadOS 27 and macOS 27.
At the same time, reports say Apple is testing a larger AI push with Gemini access and smaller models also emerging in its planning, though the company has not confirmed those details in public. The latest Siri work now appears to be one of the central pieces in that effort.
