iPhone 18 Pro battery capacity leak confirms 3C filing and 4,288mAh
Apple’s next Pro phones are already taking shape in certification paperwork, and the latest 3C filing gives the clearest battery picture so far. The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max appear to be getting modest-to-solid capacity gains, with market-specific differences still in place. Here’s what the leak suggests, and what it may mean for Apple’s 2026 flagship plans.
iPhone 18 Pro Max battery capacity hits 5,567mAh in the US filing
The bigger battery story is on the iPhone 18 Pro Max. According to the filing, the US version lists a 5,567mAh battery, while the China model comes in at 5,391mAh. That is roughly a 500mAh increase over the iPhone 17 Pro Max, which is a noticeable jump even if it is not the kind of massive leap some buyers may be hoping for.
For Apple, this kind of move fits a familiar pattern. The company tends to make measured upgrades rather than chasing the biggest number on a spec sheet. Still, a higher-capacity battery at the Pro Max level matters, especially in a market where Android flagships often compete directly on raw battery size. In practical terms, more capacity usually gives Apple extra room to improve endurance without having to change the overall design dramatically.
The filing also reinforces that Apple continues to split battery sizes by market. That means the US eSIM model and the China physical SIM version are not identical, which is something that has shown up before in other iPhone generations.
A20 Pro 2nm chip and smaller Dynamic Island are also in the leak set
The battery leak is not the only part of the rumor cycle. The same set of reports points to an A20 Pro chip built on a 2nm process, along with a smaller Dynamic Island cutout. Those details are not confirmed by Apple, but they line up with the kind of incremental hardware refinement the company usually prefers.
If the A20 Pro does arrive on 2nm, the main benefit would likely be efficiency rather than a dramatic visual change. That matters because battery life is not just about battery size. Chip efficiency, display tuning, and software behavior all play a role too. So even a relatively small battery increase on the iPhone 18 Pro could be more useful than it looks at first glance if the new chip helps the phone stretch power further.
A smaller Dynamic Island would also be more of a daily-use change than a headline feature. It would not transform the phone, but it would fit Apple’s usual approach of shaving down visible hardware over time rather than making abrupt design shifts.
Variable aperture main lens and three 48MP sensors could change the Pro Max camera story
Camera rumors are also building around the top model. The current leak cycle suggests a variable aperture main lens for the Pro Max, plus three 48MP sensors and a periscope telephoto setup. If that proves accurate, Apple would be positioning the iPhone 18 Pro Max as a more serious imaging device, not just a phone with a better camera than the smaller model.
A variable aperture lens would be the most notable piece in that group. In broad terms, it could give the camera more flexibility in different lighting conditions, though the exact implementation is still unknown. The three 48MP sensor setup would also keep Apple closer to the high-resolution hardware race that Samsung and several Chinese brands have been pushing for some time.
For now, though, this all remains in the leak category. The useful part is that the battery numbers, chip chatter, and camera rumors seem to be moving in the same direction: Apple is preparing a Pro lineup that leans on efficiency, small design updates, and stronger imaging hardware rather than a dramatic redesign.
That may not be flashy, but it is consistent with how Apple usually builds its premium phones. The 3C filing at least gives the battery claims some grounding, and the rest of the rumor set fills in the shape of what the 2026 iPhone 18 Pro range could look like.
