Both handsets ship with Nothing OS 4.1 based on Android 16 and come with a commitment of three years of Android OS upgrades and six years of security updates.
A key feature differentiator is the Glyph interface. The standard Nothing Phone 4a uses the Glyph Bar with 63 mini-LEDs arranged across six customizable zones. This interface supports functions such as generative ringtones, Glyph Timer, Essential Notifications, Volume Indicator, Live Notifications, Glyph Torch, Camera Countdown, Flip to Record, Flip to Glyph, and Glyph Progress.

On the camera front, both phones offer triple rear camera setups. The Nothing Phone 4a features a 50-megapixel Samsung GN9 main sensor with optical image stabilization, a 50-megapixel Samsung JN5 periscope telephoto camera with OIS and up to 70x Ultra Zoom, and an 8-megapixel ultrawide sensor with a Sony IMX355 sensor and a 120-degree field of view.

Battery life and charging capabilities are aligned with their mid-range positioning. Indian variants pack a 5,400mAh battery with support for 50W wired fast charging. Nothing claims the Phone 4a can charge from 1% to 100% in about 64 minutes. The Phone 4a Pro supports 7.5W reverse wired charging as an additional feature.
Connectivity across both devices includes dual SIM, 5G, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.4, NFC, GPS, and a USB Type-C port. An in-display optical fingerprint sensor is used for security.
In terms of durability, the Nothing Phone 4a carries an IP64 rating for dust and splash resistance, while the Phone 4a Pro has an IP65 rating for improved protection. The standard model measures 163.95 by 77.57 by 8.55 millimeters and weighs about 204.5 grams, whereas the 4a Pro measures 163.6 by 76.6 by 7.9 millimeters and weighs around 210 grams.
These measurements and ratings place the devices firmly in the mainstream segment, offering a balance of design, display quality, and feature set that Nothing has emphasized in its recent launches.
A new announcement for Android's release date has been made by Google. The complete rollout of Android 1.5 Cupcake will be available to users around the world in a few weeks, but users in India will be receiving the update as well. The introduction of Android 1.5 with Cupcake is designed to align with Google's plans for when new devices will be made available in markets that are new to them.
In addition, Google's plans for the 4a and 4a Pro are to offer users a unique Android experience including new UI elements based on the Glyph user interface (UI) and improved camera hardware that is intended to differentiate them from similar models in India's smartphone market.
Users will need to check with local retailers to see if they have access to the 4a or 4a Pro units, and they will need to compare the bank discounts and exchange options that is being offered to them before making a purchase decision regarding which model they would like to buy.
Finally, users will want to identify the manufacture of their device and the amount of time, e.g. 6 months, that their device will receive future updates.
