Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8 Battery Leak Raises a Big Question About the Upgrade

Samsung is expected to unveil the Galaxy Z Flip 8 alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 8 at its usual summer launch event, which typically takes place in July.

A new report points to a battery setup that could keep the overall capacity similar to the current generation, with the usual split-battery design likely retained. Pricing may stay in line with the preceding model as Samsung plans the release for the second half of the year.

The new information centers on the battery details for the Galaxy Z Flip 8. A GalaxyClub report suggests the clamshell foldable might use two battery cells rated at 1,150mAh and 3,024mAh, giving a combined rated capacity of 4,174mAh. The device is expected to be marketed with a typical battery capacity of 4,300mAh, a figure that would match the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7. This implies the overall energy capacity could be unchanged, even as the handset potentially adopts different cell configurations.

Despite the unchanged total capacity, officials familiar with the matter said the Flip 8 may employ different battery cells than its predecessor. In Samsung’s recent strategy, similar capacity with varied cell composition can lead to minor improvements in efficiency and battery life through software and hardware optimization. Other devices have demonstrated similar trends, with devices producing better lasting power and battery capacity; however, the overall mAh energy rating did not change.

In addition, as previously rumoured, cameras on Z Flip 8 will not receive significant improvements; therefore, it looks to be just another slightly improved version of their previous model instead of an entirely new model with major upgrades. New reports indicate that the Z Flip 8 will be powered by Samsung's new Exynos 2600 processor, manufactured via a 2nm process, which aligns with rumors surrounding the next generation of Samsung foldables.

Pricing, production and roadmap

People familiar with the matter say Samsung plans to ramp up production ahead of the launch window. The company is reportedly targeting around 3.5 million units of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and 3 million units of the Galaxy Z Flip 8 for the initial period, reflecting expectations of stronger demand for the book-style Fold model after the Galaxy Z Fold 7 reportedly outsold the Galaxy Z Flip 7 in 2025.

Pricing discussions in the report place the Galaxy Z Flip 8 at around EUR 1,199 for the 256GB storage variant, a figure in line with the previous generation. In India, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 began at Rs. 1,09,999 for the 12GB + 256GB configuration, providing a reference point for potential Flip 8 pricing if the trend holds.
