Netflix Mobile App Adds Clips Feed in Major Design Overhaul

Netflix starts rolling out new mobile app design

Netflix has begun rolling out a major update to its mobile app, adding a vertical video feed called Clips and a redesigned navigation layout. The company said the update is now reaching users in India, the US, the UK, Australia, Canada, Malaysia, Pakistan, the Philippines and South Africa.

In a blog post on Thursday, Netflix said the new mobile experience includes clips from shows, films and specials, with more countries set to get the update in the coming months. The changes follow earlier design work on the company’s smart TV app and come after Netflix said during its first-quarter results that a similar mobile overhaul was on the way.

Clips brings vertical video discovery to Netflix

The biggest change in the Netflix mobile app is Clips, described by the company as a “vertical discovery experience.” It presents short vertical videos from series, films and specials, giving users a way to preview content before deciding what to watch. Netflix said the feature is meant to help users go deeper when something gets their attention.

The format is similar to short-video feeds seen on platforms such as Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts. Netflix said users can scroll through clips tailored to their tastes and open the full title when they want more detail.

Users can also add titles seen in Clips to My List. The app lets them share Clips through social media services including WhatsApp and Instagram, and users can post Clips directly to Instagram Stories. A thumbnail in the bottom-right corner opens the watch page for the title being viewed.

Navigation changes come to the bottom and top menus

The Clips section now appears in the bottom menu of the app. Netflix also updated the top navigation area with a new layout that includes tabs for Shows, Movies, New & Hot and Categories.

Netflix said the redesign is built to put key content front and centre with streamlined navigation and a vertical discovery experience designed for phones. The company is rolling out the new mobile app update gradually, with the rest of the world due to get it in the coming months.

The update extends the company’s wider design changes across devices. Netflix began rolling out major design changes to its smart TV app in May last year to improve navigation for users worldwide. Earlier this month, the company also said during its first-quarter financial results that a mobile update was planned, and the new rollout now follows that timeline.

The mobile app changes mark another step in Netflix’s broader interface shift, with the latest rollout focused on discovery, navigation and quick access to titles already being viewed. The company has not said when every market will receive the update, only that the broader release is planned for the coming months.
