iPhone Users Are Finding a Hidden WhatsApp Upgrade That Changes Everything

WhatsApp rolls out chat transfer, storage and AI updates

WhatsApp on Thursday announced a new batch of features focused on cross platform use, storage control, and AI tools, while also bringing dual account support to iPhone users. The Meta-owned messaging app said the rollout includes a chat transfer tool that now works across iOS and Android, along with ways to manage large files more directly inside chats.

The update also extends to iPhone users who can now maintain two accounts on one device, a feature that was earlier limited to Android. WhatsApp said the new tools are rolling out now and will reach all users in the coming weeks.

Cross platform chat transfer expands

One of the main changes is the expanded chat transfer feature. In a blog post, WhatsApp said users can now move conversations from iOS to Android, or from Android to iOS, in addition to transfers within the same ecosystem. The move covers account information, individual and group chats, communities, WhatsApp Channel updates, chat history and call history.

The transfer tool also includes photos and videos, which will move to the new device along with the rest of the account data. WhatsApp has positioned the feature as part of its broader push to improve cross platform functionality.

For users switching phones, the update removes one of the long standing limits around moving data between Android and iPhone. The company has not said anything beyond the rollout timing, but it made clear the feature is now going live.

Storage, dual accounts and AI features added

WhatsApp has also changed how storage can be managed inside the app. Users can now find and delete large files directly from individual chats by tapping the chat name and selecting Manage Storage. The option lets users clear space without deleting the full conversation.

The company said users can also remove only media files while keeping the chat history intact. That gives people a more selective way to handle storage, especially in chats with a large number of photos and videos.

On iPhone, WhatsApp is bringing support for two accounts on a single device. The feature was previously available only on Android. According to the blog post, users will be able to log in to two accounts on one iPhone, which can help separate work and personal chats. WhatsApp said the profile picture will appear in the bottom tab to show which account is active.

AI-powered tools are part of the same update. WhatsApp said users can edit photos directly within chats before sending them using Meta AI. The editing options include removing unwanted elements, changing backgrounds and applying styles.

The Writing Help feature has also been improved. WhatsApp said it can now suggest replies based on conversation context, helping users draft responses more easily while keeping privacy in place, according to the company.

All of the features were announced on Thursday and are being rolled out now. WhatsApp said they will be available to all users in the coming weeks.
