Samsung to Mass Produce 8th Gen OLED Panels for Apple MacBooks
Samsung Display is set to begin mass production of the world’s first 8th-generation OLED line, with glass-substrate production planned to start in May, according to The Elec. The A6 OLED line is expected to supply panels for Apple’s upcoming 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook models, which are anticipated to launch in the fourth quarter.
The Elec report notes the line’s early glass-substrate work marks the start of mass production for Apple-bound panels. The report also says this move marks a shift in Apple’s laptop display strategy as OLED panels move into larger MacBook models.
In the same reporting window, Apple is expected to refresh its MacBook Pro lineup with new M5 Pro and M5 Max models, as low retail stock and software signals hint at a launch.
Production timeline and model lineup
According to information, it appears that the A6 line will focus on manufacturing OLED display panels which are specifically designed for use in both 14 and 16 inch MacBook computers. The A6 line of OLED displays will begin mass-production of their eighth generation OLEDs sometime in May. Production of glass substrates will begin at this time as well. Production of OLED panels for Apple’s 14-inch (14") and 16-inch (16") MacBook computers will end during Q4.
